PRESS RELEASE

30 Nov -0001

The Gambia Tourism Board wishes to bring to the attention of the general public that the Tourism Development Area (TDA) is a reserved zone for tourism development purposes. The West Coast TDA comprises of the coastal stretch from Kotu Bridge to Kartong measuring 800 meters inland, from the High Water Mark. It was leased to Central Government in 1969 by the Kombo North District Authority for a period of 51 years and was subsequently extended to 99 years by the State Lands Act of 1991. Currently, the lease is under the custody of GTBoard as per the GT Board Act 2011 Part IX (46).

It has come to the attention of the Gambia Tourism Board that people are buying landed properties in the Tourism Development Area, notably Tanji, Batokunku, Tujereng, Sanyang, Medina Salam, and Kartong. The Alkalos, Cheifs and other District Authorities are hereby warned not to partake in any land transactions within the TDA.  The General Public is also advised not to purchase land in the said areas as this contravenes the above-mentioned Act thus making the acquisition of land in the TDA through such means illegal. GT Board will ensure that those involved will be prosecuted accordingly.

In the same vein, the GT Board wishes to inform all those that are doing transfer/assignment/sale of land in the Brufut Heights to come forward to the GT Board to regularise the status of the land before the transfer/Assignment/sale is put in effect.

We solicit your cooperation and compliance. Thank you

GT Board Management.
